The museum internal lift will be out of action from 9 October to 21 November 2023 due to an upgrade and refit.

Our galleries remain accessible for you to enjoy.

If you are unable to use stairs to access the ground floor and level 2 of the museum and the air-bridge to level 2 of the library please talk to our friendly team at the museum or library for assistance or directions at any time.

Access to:

Level 1 of the museum:

Puke Ariki Store, isite, museum foyer, Taranaki Life Gallery, Arborio and bathrooms will be accessible through the museum front entrance.

Ground Floor of the museum:

The State of Nature Exhibition will be accessible via the loading bay at the rear of the museum only, with a Visitor Host present.

Please come to the museum foyer and ask one of our Visitor Hosts to assist you to the access point.

Alternatively, you can pre-book your visit and you will need to do this the day before. Entry times will be 10:30am and 3:30pm daily. Please contact NPDC Contact Centre (06 759 6060) and ask them to connect you to the isite. The isite representative will need your name, contact number, date and which time you would like to book for. On the day of your booked visit a Visitor Host will be at the loading bay area to meet you to then guide you through the access point to the State of Nature Exhibition.

Level 2 of the museum:

Wall Gallery, Te Takapou Whāriki, Taranaki Naturally, bathrooms and air-bridge will be accessible via the library. In the library you can use either the escalator or lift on the ground floor.
