For finding joy in movement, following your passions and getting out there and doing it
The Taranaki Activity Trophy is made from sterling silver and andesite.
Developing the Award
Jewellers Sam Kelly and Jennifer Laracy held workshops at Puke Ariki in 2019 to find out what values are important to us today. They invited locals to create their own awards for people who deserve to be honoured, and through the stories that were shared came up with the top 10 values for our region. Inspired by heritage objects in the Puke Ariki collection and designs from the community they then created 10 new awards, including the Activity Trophy.

Sketches
Putting ideas onto paper helps the artists decide how to present their ideas and figure out the best type of materials to use.
Our Activity Star
Sam Kelly and Jennifer Laracy selected people from the community who represent each value to be photographed for the Redecorating Taranaki exhibition. The Activity Trophy is seen here with Lesley Herlihy, who was a marching champion with the Inglewood Vanguards Marching Team in the 1950s.
