Connect with Taranaki’s unique heritage through whakairo.Guided by Manu Bennett, carver and Puke Ariki’s new Pouako Ara Māori, students will explore the incredible taonga on display in Te Takapou Whāriki, the Māori gallery.
We’ll dive into the traditions, materials, and techniques of carving, followed by a hands-on opportunity to investigate the patterns used in the art of whakairo. This programme is offered alongside the library-based ‘Tukutuku’ session as part of a rotation. Support material including pre and post visit activities and information will be provided on booking or by request,
