Come along and experience Kāhui Manu o Taranaki as they nurture Taonga Pūoro among younger generations, helping them connect with their whakapapa and tīpuna. Be moved by a spiritual whale song performed in harmony with the moana, then join tamariki in learning to play Taonga Pūoro, the traditional instruments of Māori people.

Participant Bio | Dave Trinder
Dave Trinder has been teaching Taonga Pūoro for nearly 9 years. He began with workshops at museums and maraes and was later invited to attend schools. Kāhui Manu was established in 2024 by students Dave has taught over the past few years. The group members are aged between 8 and 13 years, including both Tama kotiro. They have performed Pōwhiri and blessings/openings of buildings in the Taranaki region. Kāhui Manu's objective is to preserve Taonga Pūoro among younger generations
