Taranaki Heritage Month: The Ōpunakē Feaver Collection

The special project team at Puke Ariki will share insights from their work on the Feaver Collection of 10,000 glass plate negatives from Ōpunakē. From tractors and prize cows to birthday cakes and wedding parties, this collection is a real slice of rural life between the 1890s and 1940s. Studio images were taken at the Feaver family chemist shop, and a diverse range of locals are represented in this delightful and comprehensive collection. The Ōpunakē Feaver Collection Project is a lottery-funded initiative to digitise and catalogue the Ōpunakē Feaver Collection, a significant group of glass plate negatives that will be housed within the Puke Ariki Pictorial Collection.

Working alongside Puke Ariki Pictorial Curator Natasha McKinney and Museum Imagining Specialist Rosie Moyes, the project team includes Digitisation Assistants Sam McComb and Shayla Welson, and Cataloguing Assistant Farrar Cassidy.
