Developing the Award

Jewellers Sam Kelly and Jennifer Laracy held workshops at Puke Ariki and throughout Taranaki to find out what values are important to us today. They invited locals to create their own awards for people who deserve to be honoured, and through the stories that were shared came up with the top 10 values for our region. Inspired by heritage objects in the Puke Ariki collection and designs from the community they then created 10 new awards, including the Whānau Trophy.
