Congratulations to our selected artists 2024
Home Work Maunga Auaha: Taranaki Art 2024 will be a celebration of the art our region is known for, inspired by the maunga we live beneath, invoking creativity that permeates our way of life in a way that is unique to Taranaki. This exhibition aims to acknowledge the vital role art plays in forming a vibrant community by championing established and emerging local talent.
With over 200 entries, the most we've ever received, our three guest judges - Lisa Reihana, Michel Tuffery and Justin Morgan - had the difficult task of choosing the selected works.
My overall response and observation, there were a lot of artworks that had everyone doing their 'Homework' from crafting, painting, sculpting and mixed media, giving myself and my two co-selectors a lot of options surveying a good spread of different skill sets and mediums being cultivated in the community.
I thoroughly enjoyed just dissecting the artwork submissions. It was a pleasure to see people pushing themselves and their ideas, and in the majority of artworks I could feel the joy of the process, which for me overall is the most important aspect and that was evident.
If there was one thing I would say to the majority of the artists/creatives is "Don't Stop, stick with it and Keep Going, it's the personal enjoyment of just making it by yourself and the process you go through.
