Māori Language week is an annual celebration of Te Reo Māori, and here at Puke Ariki you have many opportunities to get involved and grow your knowledge and use of Te Reo!

Join us during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori at Puke Ariki Museum and Libraries, your local community library, and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre, to celebrate and learn Māori language and culture. All programmes are free of charge, unless otherwise stated.

In 2024 the week's programme invites you to:

  • take part in Waiata in the Museum and Waiata in the Gallery - song sheets supplied, no experience necessary!
  • pop into your local library and greet the librarian in Te Reo to receive your own great Te Reo pukapuka/book - choose from a great range of titles spanning kid's stories to guides to Tikanga and more.
  • visit the Gallery to take part in a community korero about the critical role that language plays in keeping cultures alive.
  • discover quizzes that explore and celebrate Te Reo Māori
    - enjoy themed Crackerjacks story sessions (suitable for pre-schoolers)
    - browse our booklist
