Puke Ariki and Community Libraries have a wide range of books, puzzles and DVDs available for loan.
From theme books to share with a toddler to a study centre complete with computers for homework and research, there is something for all ages at Puke Ariki.

The range of services includes;
  • Extensive fiction and non-fiction lending collections specifically for children
  • A teenage collection, which includes fiction, non-fiction, audio books, graphic novels and magazines
  • Picture books and board books for pre-schoolers
  • A junior te reo Māori collection
  • Staff who can help with questions and suggestions about children and reading

Our Discover it! librarians love introducing youngsters to the wonderful world of books and have a 30 min fun literacy session just for tots! So if your kindergarten, daycare centre or pre-school facility would like to find out more, click here!

Help your youngsters learn to love books by joining a fun storytime and activity Crackerjacks session! They are held at Puke Ariki, Inglewood, Waitara, Bell Block and Oakura - click here for dates and times.


ruru scavenger hunts


Meet Ruru, our friendly little owl, who has laid trails of fun and discovery all over Puke Ariki! Pick up a leaflet from the host's desk in the Puke 
Ariki Museum foyer, solve the clues, find the items and complete the tasks to claim your special Ruru badge. There are several hunts to choose from, including a trail specifically for pre-schoolers.
