What we Hold


The Taranaki Research Centre holds a wide range of books, journals, archives and images relating to Taranaki history. You can search for published material on the library catalogue and collection material on our Heritage Collection database.

Some of our most popular resources are:
  • The Taranaki Collection, which is made up of published material relating to the Taranaki region
  • The Māori Collection
  • The Glass Case collection of rare books
  • All Taranaki newspapers from the 1850s to the current day
  • Electoral rolls for the whole country
  • Art, history and science journals
  • Government publications, including the NZ Gazettes and parliamentary minutes
  • Taranaki information drawers, which include family/whakapapa history files
  • Ancestry.com
  • Birth, Death & Marriage records – this includes access to locations for burials in Taranaki
  • The passenger list database has arrivals and departures listed in the Taranaki Herald 1843-1885
  • Photographs and images, including the Swainson/Woods collection and the Feaver collection
