Community dynamo and Taranaki artist Dale Copeland describes herself as an artist, mathematician, book binder and happy person. She works in collage, jewellery and book making, photography, fabric art and sculpture, but her preferred medium is assemblage art. She also runs the annual International Collage Exchange, has written several books, writes websites for artists, and can even claim an award from the Queen as her own, after being made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 2012 for services to art.
The Taranaki Artist Ephemera Project could in some ways be described as Dale’s brainchild as she donated a collection of ephemera to Puke Ariki at the end of the 2011 exhibition 'Post No Bills': Ephemera by Taranaki’s Independent Art Groups. This provided a catalyst for Puke Ariki’s ephemera project. The ephemera Dale subsequently donated reflects her community based approach. It includes handmade invitations to group shows, artist meet-ups and personal parties as well as material relating to the formation of networks, including exhibitions and galleries, for the local artists.
