voyage to the deep
21 May - 16 October 2016
Lower Ground Floor, Puke Ariki Museum
Voyage to the Deep is a hands-on family exhibition inspired by the 150-year-old Jules Verne novel, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Come and explore Verne’s imaginary, mythical ocean with us, while learning interesting facts about today’s deep blue world. Voyage to the Deep will take you to the bottom of the sea where you can dress up as Captain Nemo and explore a shipwreck, get lost in a forest of giant kelp, or take the controls of a fantasy submarine.
You’ll also find out about ghost nets, aquanauts and marine snow, and get to feel the weight of deep-sea diving boots to see whether you’re cut out for living and working under water.
“You will not regret the time spent aboard my vessel. You are going to travel through a wonderland. Astonishment and stupefaction will probably be your normal state of mind.”
- Captain Nemo
