SCANZ 2013 – 3rd nature
Until 1 April 2013
Level 2, Puke Ariki Museum
Art, science, technology and indigenous perspectives meet in 3rd nature, an exhibition celebrating a new way of seeing.
The title 3rd nature suggests a hybrid space – the third space – of overlap between cultures.
Curated by Ian Clothier, this exhibition intermingles with taonga in Puke Ariki’s Te Takapou Whāriki and Taranaki Naturally galleries and flows out on to the Landing and into Pukekura Park.
It stars work by artists from all over the world, including esteemed Taranaki ahorangi Dr Te Huirangi Waikerepuru. His video animation, Te Taiao Māori, shares pre-1840 knowledge of the Māori universe.
Other works include floating jellyfish formed by crocheted wire, an interactive walk through time using an iPhone app and movies used to photosynthesise cyanobacteria.
SCANZ 2013 – 3rd nature is presented by New Plymouth-based Intercreate Trust and supported by Puke Ariki, Creative NZ, WITT, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, Matahiapo, ianclothier.com and Geon.
